152MC – Alison Portraits
For this module we have to include portraits. Portraits are not my strong point as I am more of a landscape photographer, however from doing this shoot, it brought a new horizon for me. I struggled with this shoot as I didn’t know what I wanted out of it. I know I needed to get photographs of Alison to show the audience what she looks like and what her hearing aid looks like when it is on her. From looking back at Lee Jeffries portraits, he zooms into the faces of his subject. Which I have experimented with. I like how those pictures have turned out because you can really see the detail and texture on the face. I also struggled with the lighting. I was not able to book the studio as my parents came to visit me on a Sunday, and the studio isn’t open on weekends. So I needed to adjust the lighting to my surroundings. The lighting is not what I hoped it to be as the temperature made Alison’s face look warmer. However, with the inspiration of Lee Jeffries work I changed my images to black and white. I prefer this effect better then in colour as the colour isn’t as warmer. I’ve always preferred shooting in black and white anyway because I believe that colour distracts the viewer from the main focus of the image. Some of the pictures were dark, so I needed to change the aperture to fix this issue. Overall I believe this shoot worked successfully as I’ve produced images which I am confident with and could be for my final book.
